A Glimpse into our Montessori Class

We have a lot to celebrate every day in our classroom. Our students are doing a variety of work and are inspired through presentations and student collaborations. This week I presented "The Black Strip". Here the students received a compelling impression of time - the long, long, long time it took for the earth to be prepared for all children, parents and grandparents.

The new students are doing plant experiments for "The Needs of the Plant" and reflecting on the many differences between plants and animals. Older students are excited to learn about the history of written language and how the letters traveled from Egypt to Greece to Rome where italic writing began. They are trying their hand at calligraphy. Many students are going further into mathematics with long division, long multiplication, multiples, factors, graphing and measuring.

Thanks to the mentors who help their mentorees learn how to write in their record books and how to come to a lesson when invited. All of the students help each other. Our class is a wonderful group. We had our third community meeting this week led by class president, Ava.

Our Thanks is Boundless

We are so grateful for you, our parents and parent volunteers. Thank you for all of your support from teaching your child manners, making materials, copies, washing our lunch napkins and donating items. Every detail helps our class run more smoothly! You are awesome parents and we are honored to have your children in our class. Thank you!

Science is Always Fun

We will order a science magazine for each student that will be sent home monthly as part of home learning. Science is fun and students crave science explorations! Please send $5 this week so we can order your child's copy. Thank you!

Parent Conference Questions

Parent conferences will be held in our classroom next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We have already sent your notice home. Please let us know if you did not receive your notice or if the time does not work for you. Thanks.

Classroom Favorite Reads

We hope you are enjoying reading at home. In our class we have read many wonderful stories. Some of the student's favorite authors so far are Patrica Palocco ("Thank you Mr. Falkner") and "My Rotten Red Haired Brother") and Gene Zion ("Harry the Dirty Dog"). The students also love Rodger Hargreaves "Mr. Books". It's fun to look up these authors at the library on your next trip or do an author study on-line.

Home Practice Check Up

How is your child handling the home practice? Often, just getting into a routine with a regular set time will help your child build good study habits. Please encourage your child to choose a time that is early and beneficial for her. You are also promoting the concept of meeting a goal, a deadline. Home practice is due Friday in the folder. Early finishing before Thursday night is best. Thank you.
