Children's Favorite Authors to Hunt over Spring Break

Spring Break begins Monday, March 9 through the 20th. We encourage you to visit your local library and have a mystery hunt of the recent authors we have presented in class. The children love to search and find. Some of our class favorites are William Farley who wrote “Little Black, a Pony”. Cass Foster, author of “Shakespeare for Children: The Story of Romeo and Juliet”. Munro Leaf, author of “The Story of Ferdinand” (we also saw the play) and “Noodle” and “Manners Can be Fun”. We also enjoyed the fable “The Hunter and the Quail”, a Jakata Tale by Dharma Publishing. These are a series of fables. We are currently reading a chapter book “Totto Chan” by Tetsudo Kuroyanagi. The students love this story and can’t wait to hear what will happen next.

Montessori Lessons – A Glimpse

We are enjoying the early spring feeling of the lower desert. The first year students are investigating different kinds of veins in leaves outside and the important job of all the leaves of plants. We had leaves for lunch last week too.

Second year students are continuing their study of the earth with the hottest and coldest time of the day. You can try it out at home by putting a large rock in the sun in the morning and feeling it throughout the day….
They are also learning about the imaginary lines that encircle the earth and why we say AM and PM.

The oldest children are working collaboratively and duplicating The Second Timeline of Human Beings. Each student is doing research on an historical portion of the timeline. They are preparing their research to present as a play to the class.

Congratulations Essay Writers - National Event

Ottawa University Essay contest: Congratulations to Jared who received honorable mention! There were almost four thousand entries from all over the country. Great effort Jared! Congratulations to all the students who also made the effort to write their drafts and polish their writing. Way to go Rosario, Shion, Sophia and Salem. The students will share their writings in our classroom “Author’s Chair”.

Kudos to Science Fair Students

The students did awesome presentations during the Science Fair. Their displays were beautiful and many made sure to include their hypothesis, steps and conclusions. Great research! We all had fun too. Thank you students and parents for your support.

Book Reports on a Famous Person

All students are required to read a chapter book biography on a famous person. We discussed ideas in class. We have many biographies to choose from or you can help your child by going to the library. The first year students will use an early reader biography. Please see the attached form for the biography and ideas on how to display the biography. We will have a two day “Biography Fair” on Thursday and Friday afternoon March 26 and 27. The book reports and displays are due on Tuesday, March 24.

Home Folder and Communications

Please return all home folders by this Friday. Home practice work is also due every Friday. This helps your child and Mrs. Ramirez stay organized when we both prepare items to go home. We also send information to you and read your notes. Thank you for your cooperation.
